  2. If you are into home movies, pictures, etc….then this device is great, but I was hoping to be able to download movies from legal sources and play them through this device on my HDTV. So far I haven’t been able to play any movies because my source was not accepted on this player. I mistakenly assumed that if a movie was downloaded from Amazon Unbox, that it could be played through this player. I bought and downloaded the movie, “The Ant Bully”, put it on a USB stick, put the stick into the USB port on the WDTV media player and I get a message on a blue screen telling me that the movie will need to be converted to a different format. So, I begin the process of trying to convert the movie to a format the player will accept and it turns out that it’s basically impossible to do that. So, I’m stuck with a movie that I can only watch on the computer. So understandably I’m a little disappointed.

I would recommend thoroughly reading the specs before purchasing. Obviously I didn’t do that because it just didn’t occur to me that a media player was restricted for whatever reasons by the corporate powers that control the money that I could download movies from Tunes® Store, Cinema Now, Movielink®, Amazon Unbox(tm), and Vongo® and not have them play via this MEDIA PLAYER. So grandpas, grandmas and all you non-tech savvy people out there, get your spectacles on and study up on the various formats this player accepts, make sure that the source you download movies from are acceptable to this player and shame on you for not knowing that in advance and just taking for granted that it will play movies like it should.

Also, I have no interest in playing music through it. I like the idea of watching family movies and viewing digital pictures, but not enough to actually buy a device with which to do that.

And to those who are as ignorant about this device as I was, you will need an external hard drive or USB stick or some external data storage device to connect to the WDTV player as it does not have any memory capacity at all. The physical aspects of the device are quite good – small, black, 2 USB ports, composite and HDMI connections and a small remote control. Don’t lose the remote because it is the only control device you have. You cannot operate the player without it since there are no buttons on the player itself.

Other than that, it’s one fantastic player and I can’t wait to eventually get to use it!!!

  4. Very small with great funtionality. Takes a little getting used to using but has many features. Output stable and handles many video, audio file configurations. One of the best players on the market. Highly recomend.

  5. This product was easy to use outside the box, it did what it was supposed to do. It loaded quickly and didn’t require reading the whole book before I figured everything out about it.

  6. I bought my WD multimedia bridge and it works fine, however it does not have wifi capability… so I bought the EMTEC N200 and can actually upload my shared files from my home network!
