You think you won’t need the wall anchor but this shelf is very heavy. It feels very sturdy and looks very sturdy. The feet broke on mine after being up a few days and the whole thing came crashing down. It’s an amazing shelf but it might just be a little too high. I am dreading the aftermath of having to check all 450 dvds that were on it to make sure that I didn’t lose anything in the fall out. It took a few hours to clean up the mess it caused and a steel shelf will do some damage in to anything that is in it’s path sadly. Luckily I was not where I normally am which is directly in front of it. My chair has seen better days now though, as I have to start my search for a new one. The shelf is great and does look wonderful. I have a 2nd one on the way and hopefully it will work great alongside the other one. Luckily I had a few extra shelves to fill in the gaps of the ones that got mangled when it collapsed. Some people say the feet trick works and you have it tilted against the wall. The feet on mine for some reason just snapped and that was that. Like I said do the safe thing and use the wall anchors that are included. I have every intention of setting it back up and trying again.

It holds about twice as many CDs as the rack it replaced. Guess I do not need to do that music purge after all.
It’s mostly made of sturdy metal, that reminds me of the metal equipment racks used in industrial computer rooms. It’s not exactly chrome, more of a stainless steel finish. The shelves are made of wire rods tack welded together, and they aren’t quite perfect – the wire at the back that keeps the CDs from going off the backside, is not straight on all my shelves. But I think it is solid enough.
The supports are solid metal pipes with grooves around them at regular intervals, like someone went at them with a pipe cutter but only cut halfway through. There are two-piece plastic sleeves that snap around the pipes, and they have a ridge inside that fits into the grooves. They are tapered, and the shelves have rings on the corners that slide over the plastic sleeves. It’s clever. The plastic sleeves would be inadequate, except the weight of the shelves pushes them more tightly together and grips the vertical pipes.
It has plastic disks for feet. They are not very sturdy but I don’t think they will be under that much stress, so I am not worried about them. They screw to the bottom of the vertical pipes, and I was able to level the shelf by screwing the feet out a little more at the front. Not so much to tilt it back towards the wall, but to get it vertical in the first place. If you are placing the shelf on a carpeted surface, like I am, it’s important to be aware that the carpet is a little thicker under the back feet, because of the tack strips that carpet is held down with. So you need the feet to be a little taller in front.
The instructions say you need a power drill and a phillips head screwdriver to assemble it. Actually, you only need those to attach the straps to the wall; you could assemble the rack without tools. But I found it was also useful to have a rubber mallet, to pound the shelves into place.
I did attach the straps to the wall – it’s very tall and narrow, which makes it precarious, and I don’t need it falling on a cat, or on one of my guests. I don’t think drywall is strong enough to anchor it, so I located the wall studs and screwed the straps to them. The screws provided are too short to get good purchase in the wall studs so I used longer ones.
I glued a little piece of foam on the back, on each side, where it touches the wall. That way even if it wobbles and pulls on the straps, it won’t dent the drywall when it wobbles back to the wall, and it won’t make noise.
I am using it entirely for CDs, no DVDs. With the shelves spaced for CDs, it is tall enough to hold one more shelf, than came in the box. I am OK with that – who knows if we will even still be using CDs by the time I fill it up?

My husband and I bought this shelf for our DVDs because it was one of the largest available for the price and got mostly great reviews. It arrived today and assembly was a breeze. It’s very easy to add and adjust shelves, and I like the dividers included as well. The design is really smart. Not meant to dazzle (it’d be nice if it came in black as well as chrome?), but looks like the photo so no complaints there. One issue I had with the packaging was that some of the smaller connecting parts were tumbling around freely in the box. I could see how they could have fallen out, but thankfully everything arrived safe and sound. Sits sturdier than I imagined after seeing how tall it was, but I’d still recommend using the wall anchor if you have children (or large dogs like we do.) Awesome buy.

i never thought i would find a rack that holds all my DVD’s and video games, but this one does, and I have 2 shelves still empty.
You can adjust almost everything on this for CD’s, games, dvd, etc…
I would highly recommend this to anyone who has a huge media collection they need to store in one rack
